Hello, dear readers! My name is Yumiko, and I am excited to share my unique and enriching experience as an international student in Germany. As a Japanese girl studying at a private international school in Hannover, I found myself immersed in a world of new opportunities, all while working diligently to prepare for my International Baccalaureate (IB).
My parents moved away due to their work, but I remained in Germany to continue my studies. I was fortunate enough to be part of the ASTUR Highschool program, which provided me with a supportive environment to pursue my academic goals. Upon my arrival at my host family, I was warmly welcomed by my host family, who went out of their way to make me feel comfortable and at ease. They were kind, understanding, and always willing to lend a helping hand whenever I needed it. Living with them made my transition to life in Germany smooth and enjoyable.
My school in Hannover was an impressive institution with a strong emphasis on academic excellence. The teachers were dedicated and passionate, and my classmates were motivated and eager to learn. As an international student, I felt a strong sense of camaraderie and unity among my peers. Studying for the International Baccalaureate was an intense and challenging experience. The curriculum required a great deal of focus and hard work, and I found myself dedicating long hours to my studies. Despite the demanding workload, I found solace in the support and encouragement of my teachers and classmates.
In my free time, I was able to explore the beautiful city of Hannover and its many cultural offerings. I visited the stunning Herrenhausen Gardens, the historic Old Town, and the breathtaking Maschsee Lake. Each new discovery deepened my appreciation for German culture and history. One of the highlights of my time in Hannover was participating in the school’s Model United Nations (MUN) club. As a member of this organization, I had the opportunity to engage in thoughtful debates and discussions with students from around the world. This experience not only broadened my horizons but also allowed me to develop important communication and leadership skills.
Throughout my time in Germany, I was able to form strong connections with people from various backgrounds and cultures. These friendships enriched my life and contributed to my personal growth. I learned the value of empathy and understanding, as well as the importance of maintaining an open mind. As my stay in Hannover came to an end, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia and longing. I had grown attached to my host family, my school, and my newfound friends. The thought of leaving was bittersweet, but I knew that the knowledge and experiences I had gained would remain with me forever.
Looking back on my time in Germany, I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to study at such a prestigious school and to be part of the ASTUR Highschool program. The lessons I learned, both inside and outside the classroom, have shaped me into the person I am today. I am confident that the skills and knowledge I acquired in Hannover will serve me well as I continue to pursue my International Baccalaureate and beyond.
With a heart full of gratitude, I bid farewell to my time in Hannover and look forward to the next chapter of my academic journey. I will always cherish the memories I made and the friendships I forged during my stay in this beautiful city.
