Host Families

During the homestay program, students will be placed by ASTUR with a host family that best fits their personal requirements, interests, and wishes. To facilitate this process, ASTUR conducts a thorough search for the most suitable host family in all German Federal States, regardless of school frameworks. Matching a student with the right family is a complex procedure that requires as much information as possible. Therefore, for stays longer than 5 months, ASTUR requires an introductory video from the student.

Throughout the program, international students will have the opportunity to experience firsthand the daily life, culture, and typical way of living in a German household. High school students will always be provided with a single room for accommodation, ensuring privacy and personal space.

Host families will offer full board accommodation, including meals throughout the day. Students will start their day with a typical German breakfast. For lunch, they will either receive a packed lunch from their host family or have the option to dine with the family. In the evening, the host family will prepare a hot meal. It is advisable for students to communicate their food preferences, likes, dislikes, and any dietary restrictions or allergies to their host family. This allows the host family to make necessary arrangements and ensure the student’s dietary needs are met. Living with a host family also provides students with an opportunity to explore and become acquainted with German cuisine effortlessly. If students choose to have lunch at the school cafeteria, they will be responsible for arranging their own meals.

To adequately prepare for the student’s arrival, it is important for the host family to be aware of their dietary preferences and requirements. Therefore, students will need to indicate in their application whether they are vegetarian, vegan, or have any dietary incompatibilities or allergies. ASTUR will take these requirements into account and make individual arrangements accordingly.
